Forum: GratefulDead Subject: little off topic: anyone watch" forensic files" "acute lsd intoxication"

last night around 9-930 . didnt see the very beginning but good story bout some woman who was trying to kill this old dude who had a heart problem because he tried to seduce her 17 yr old daughter. she thinks by giving him lsd that will kill the old dude. so she some how gets a hold of 30 doses invites the guy over for dinner and feeds him jello with 30 hits mixed in . like about 1-2 hrs later the old fart was dead. corroner ruled died of an heart attack . cased closed right ..

wrong....dumbass daughter starts tellin friends her mom dosed the old man and it gets back to the police. so they re-open the case and dig up the dude .

do an autopsy and find the lsd .
so they then say he died of " acute lsd intoxication"
i almost fell off the couch . i never heard of anyone dying because of lsd . i could'nt believe what i was hearing . they charged the woman and she got conficted .
so she's serving her sentence and every 7 years you get to have your case reviewed . so she now has a different lawyer and low and behold he see's the "died from "acute lsd intoxication" . the lawyer contacts a so called expert in lsd (should've been me ) and is told that lsd cannot kill you no matter how much you take . it can only make you do things that could kill you . and he used the acid trips from the 60's as examples . no one has ever died from "acute lsd intoxication" he says..

they ended up finding some cold medicine in the old man that had some drug in it that can contribute to hear attacks . the woman was released from prison after 7 years .

crazy story !!!!sorry if this bores anyone but i kinda thought it was interesting...

That reminds me of a something I read in a class in school many, many years ago. The class was called "Drugs & Behavior" (seriously, don't laugh, it counted for as many credits as Advanced Calculus...and cost as much), kind of a biological and sociological look at drugs through the years. Guess what my favorite activity was before class? Don't ever tell my kids. Anyway, in this outstanding class, they were going over the entire history and pharmacological effects of LSD (guess what my favorite activity was before THAT one class? Again, never tell my kids). In the textbook it referenced the amount of LSD it would take to kill an elephant (if I remember, it was some ungodly number, like the equivalent of 8000 tabs). My first thought was "Who the hell researched that?" and then, second, "If there was an actual experiment, who picked the unlucky elepant?" and then, third, "Did they at least have some sweet Darkstar or He's Gone playing?" Ah, higher education. I guess that's one reason it was commonly called Constant-LEHIGH (say it quickly enough, you'll see).

let's hope they only calculated it somehow, based on the weight of an elephant etc.!

it would just be cruel and meaningless to actually try it. on the other hand, scientists have done lots of pointless experiments where the conclusion only have been "OK, that only did harm to the [whatever animal]. Hooray, now we've proven out hypothesis."

and in any case, wouldn't an elephant on LSD be pretty damn dangerous? i once used that as a metaphor actually, in a story i wrote: something like "the room looked like it had been inhabited by a herd of elephants on a permanent bad trip." (it was a description of a very messed up room)...

interesting anyhow! i'd also never heard of anyone dying from lsd intox. i've never even tried lsd. gimme some beers and a GD show from 74, and i'm good :)

Ever see Disney's "Dumbo"? The scene where he accidentally get plastered and has some very interesting visions involving elephants of various colors doing things elephants shouldn't be doing. I've always thought that Disney was on some very good shit to have come up with that and things like "Fantasia" (which if you've ever seen seriously "altered" you know what a trip fest it is). Kind of like when I found out Edgar Allen Poe was heavy into opium and hash it was not very surprising. And, yeah, I wouldn't want to be around the elephant that had the "brown acid", don't think they make Bummer Tents big enough.

i think i was in that class too :)

back on tour i remember this cat -not syd who would eat a whole sheet at a time . he was the living experiment i went by. shit if he can do 100 hits at a time then 2-3 can't be that bad .....:) now when they said the old man took 30 hits --i thought like big deal...hope he at least had a good trip before the heart attack !!!!

there is such a thing called "permadosing' that is done to those who break tribal law in those rainbow colonies of hippies, runaways and fugitives...i.e. i've heard stories of dude accused of raping a hippy chick "permadosed" it was like 500 hits or something...

I knew a kid who went to Jamesburg for a year with a few sheets of LSD in a baggy shoved up his ass and he tripped in there the whole time (shivers, I "experienced" a short visit to a holding tank.. the echoes and ambience were not good). Anyway, this kid came out with greasy hair, a cheshire cat grin and a plastic birdcage with a plastic bird. He used to talk to it and try to sell us sea shells... on the friggin boardwalk. Like we couldn't walk onto the beach and get them for free? He eventually OD'd on herion but I know he was on a "permatrip"... never was right again and he WAS NOT the dude that went in there...

Yeah, I've seen my share of folks who indulged a little too much, a little too often, and you can definitely see a change in them. Maybe not a Charles Manson or Salem Witches kind of change (the theory that the kids who accused the "witches" were in fact wigging out on the ergot in moldy grain is fascinating), but a change nontheless. I guess this is another example of "all things in moderation". But this leads to another question: what DO you give an elephant on a bad trip?
